Subject: [STRATEGY] New decks Date: Tue, 21 Apr 1998 11:03:39 +1000 (EST) From: Rohan Pratt To: strategy@magic.net.au G'day from North Queensland, Up here we're a bit out of touch with deck strategies; a limited number of players being one reason. So, what new decks have developed since Stronghold was released? Zvi? What on earth is that? Here's a nasty little deck I've put together: 4 portcullis 4 man-o-war 4 abduction 3 ophidean 2 steel golem 2 saphire medalion 4 impulse 2 capsize 4 counterspell 3 mana leak 2 dissipate 3 dismiss 17 island 3 quicksand 1 winding canyons The strategy is to get out the portcullis as early as possible, preferably before your opponent has 3 creatures. Abduct their biggest critter, man-owar their other then beat them up. The counters are to protect the portcullis. It's very easy to maintain control since the only creatures you need to counter are man-o-wars and nekrataals. My original deck included nekrataals and coffin queens but I ditched them to avoid mana hassles. Now for a silly deck: The Haunted Hermit 4 hermit druid 4 haunting misery 3 vampiric tutor 3 intuition 3 city of solitude 3 dense foliage 4 birds 4 llanowar elves 4 blood pet 4 wall of roots 4 wall of blossoms 4 gemstone mine 4 city of brass 4 undiscovered paradise 3 underground river 3 quicksand 2 reflecting pool The hermit goes hunting for a basic land but only finds the end of the deck. With at least 20 creatures in the graveyard the haunting misery will kill your opponent. City of solitude and dense foliage to protect against counters/damage prevention and an incinerated druid. Let me know what you think, Catch ya later, Rohan --------------------------------------------------------------------------- __ Sponsored by Games World - (02) 9241 3006 (_ _|_ ._ _._|_ _ _ @ T20 Westpac Plaza, 265 George St, Sydney City __) |_ | (_| |_(/_(_|\/ _|/ Magic: Australia on http://www.magic.net.au/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
