Guess it's all > about Mana Control-popularity. The Shard Phoenix is so good because it is a reusable Wrath of God against a lot of decks. It is better than Evincar's Justice because it requires a Dissipate to get rid of, only needs five mana to use, and also functions as a 2/2 flier. In terms of control, it is much faster than the Hammer of Bogardan (which most people eventually found to be too slow for most decks). > >Ya think? I was killed by one this weekend. The few times I played against it I found it to be pretty annoying, although a Lightning Blast would probably be better. It just ends up being used as an inferior Wall of Souls most of the time. > Just out of spite though (I like going against the stream), I'm > considering trying this deck in the Swedish Nationals: > > Heavy Green (current version) > > 4 Endangered Armodon (hey, that card reminds me of an old AN card...) > 4 Stampeeding Wilderbeests (great on it's own, super with Walls, > Sentinels or Monekys) > 4 Trained Armodon > 4 Uktabi Orangutan (kills armodons but just too good to be left out) > 4 Llanowar Sentinel (so flexible) > 4 Wall of Roots > 4 Wall of Blossoms > 2 Lhurgoyf > 2 Provoke > 2 Giant Growth > 2 Creeping Mold > 4 Wild Growth (works great - gotta have fast mana some way that > doesn't kill Armodons) > 3 Stalking Stones (great) > 16 Forests > > Hmm... that's 59. Sligh without splash of black for > you-know-what, that is. Here's the mono-green rogue fatty deck my "team" has been working on: "Lucky Charms" MAIN DECK 1 Collosus of Sardia (crucial against black) 4 Bottle Gnomes (can't be Funeral Charmed to kill Erhnamodon) 2 Puppet Strings (anti-first-strike, anti-evasion, anti-Perish) 1 Phyrexian Splicer (the secret weapon, so good in this deck) 2 Rootbreaker Wurm (was FoN, but playtest says otherwise) 4 Carnassid (had only two, but playtest says otherwise) 4 Scragnoth (had trouble against bounce, so four of these standard) 4 Endangered Armodon (nice grunts) 4 Wall of Roots (defense and mana source, fits this deck perfectly) 4 Wall of Blossoms (defense and card advantage, good versus 'Edict) 4 Overgrowth (gives 6-CC more consistency) 4 Wild Growth (survives Perish) 2 Emerald Charm (perfect fit for this deck, all three abilities used) 4 Quicksand (obvious utility) 16 Forest SIDEBOARD 1 Collosus of Sardia (anti-black) 2 Jester's Cap (versus combo decks) 2 Cursed Totem (versus bounce and G5C) 1 Puppet Strings (versus Perish) 3 Tsunami (still the best way to screw heavy blue) 3 Tranquile Domain (versus enchantment test) 1 Reap (versus black) 2 Emerald Charm (versus enchantment test) BASICS * Be familiar with all three of Emerald Charm's abilities. You can get a lot of mana by stacking Overgrowth and Wild Growth on one Forest. Always be on the lookout for opportunities to kill big fliers with the 'Charm. * Make sure you know how to use Puppet Strings and Phyrexian Splicer effectively (shadowers cannot block non-shadowers, tapped blockers deal no damage, etc.). * Keep saying "damn it, just give me one blue source and you are so dead" throughout the match. :) COMMENTS You just can't win consistently without some kind of flexible control element, and that's where the artifacts come in. If you like green, then you just have to Emerald Charm your Phyrexian Splicer for the win at least once in your life. :) > David --J.
