Subject: The Power of Reap-Lace Date: Wed, 8 Apr 1998 00:33:36 -0400 From: blade53@juno.com To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Hello all. I have been toying around with a semi-popular rogue deck, known as the almighty Reap-Lace deck. I have played this ever since the arrival of Reap in Tempest, and this deck has gone through many incarnations. Still, it remains, in my opinion, a contender in the Post-SH Type 2 environment. I will start this with the list of my current Reap-Lace deck for T2, and it is running at full speed, with turn 4 kills possible and turn 7 kills easy. 4 Reap 4 Prismatic Lace 4 Lion's Eye Diamond 2 Sylvan Library 4 Impulse 4 Intuition 4 Gaea's Blessing 1 Magma Mine 4 Counterspell 4 Mana Leak 1 Power Sink 10 Island 6 Forest 4 City of BrAss 3 Reflecting Pool 1 Gemstone Mine The basic idea of the deck is to use Prismatic Laces to turn opponent's permanents into black cards, then use Reaps to recurse Lion's Eye Diamonds. Get the Magma Mine with Impulses, Intuitions, and zero-point Gaea's Blessings. Infinite mana can easily be reached using this deck. I chose the mine over Kaervek's Torch due to the prevalence of COP: Red and Honorable Passage in my area. The Mine is a colorless source of a lot of damage, and it can be recursed to kill multiple people in a multi-player game. Mulch is a possibility, but it cancause a Cane effect, and that usually isn't good. This deck can whoop up on counter decks, since the Reaps and Laces are instants. The deck very rarely gets mana-screwed due to the cantrips and the number of land in the deck. The Sideboard: 1 Power Sink 4 Hydroblast 2 Chill 3 Respite 1 Mystical Tutor 4 Tranquil Domain Still under development, but it KILLS red and discard. Stompy dies with the Respites and PowerSink. The Tutor usually goes in against everything, since the SB is mainly instants or interrupts. The SB is designed to keep the opponent from killing me while I set up the Reap-Lace "run". I have slaughtered Megrim/Discard with it, and whoop FlunkieSligh after SBing. Cursed Scroll is too slow for me to have to worry about, but I still race to get my kill in if I suspect the broken scroll. This will be played in a few T2 tournaments over the course of a few weeks, so I will keep regular posts going. Thank you all for listening. EMail me with flames/comments/suggestions.
