Subject: new t2 decks again Date: Thu, 02 Apr 1998 15:20:34 -0800 From: Adam Vieyra To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com after reading many of the post-stronghold t2 decks on the dojo, and playtesting briefly with and against new decks, i have to decided to think out loud about decks for the new environment. here are my thoughts on the best of what will be: Necro 4 necros 4 disks 4 stupors 4 funeral charms 4 drain lifes 4 nekrataals 4 black knights 4 bottle gnomes 2 corpse dances 4 rituals 2 volrath's strongholds 2 quicksands 18 swamps sb: 3 edicts 3 touchstones 3 perish 1 corpse dance 2 spinning darkness 3 bottomless pitt the only additions i made to necro were volrath's stronghold and bottomless pitt in the sideboard. i agree with one of the posts that says the pitt is a great sideboard card vs. control. i think necro got better not because of the new black cards, because of the new red ones. red will be more popular now with shocks and flunkies, and bottle necro NEVER loses to burn. RED BURN 4 ball lightnings 4 mogg fanatics 4 jackal pups 4 ironclaw orcs 4 fireslingers 3 shocks 4 kindles 4 incinerates 4 fireblasts 4 cursed scrolls 4 wastelandz 17-18 mountains i dont even want to worry about making a sideboard for this deck because whoever tries is in for big trouble. every deck in the field can handle burn after sideboarding. Although i have seen this version bitch slap control players who gerrards for about 20, i wouldn't count on beating chills, gerrards, cop reds, dancing gnomes, or honorable passage. nevertheless, this deck will be played so be prepared. RED GOBLIN 4 jackal pups 4 mogg conscripts 4 mogg fanatics 4 mogg raiders 4 goblin soothsayer 4 fireslingers 4 mogg flunkies 4 ball lightnings 4 song of blood 4 shock 4 fireblast 1 final fortune 15 mountains sb: 4 pyroblasts 4 ancient tombs 4 ankh of mishra 3 1/1 ophidian-like guys that shatter...WHAT IS THEIR NAME! this deck is really cool. my friend made a version of this before stronghold and did well in a couple t2 tourneys before giving it up due to a blue environment w/propagandas and chills. flunkies work perfectly in this deck(which averages 5th turn kills vs. fishbowl opponents). i replaced incinerates with shocks because i often would have only 2 land and spend an entire turn incinerating a blocker. the incinerates were just there to kill creatures, and shocks kill just about everything that incinerates do anyway. vs blue the ancient tombs and pyroblasts are for the chills. i think goblin red is better than sligh. STOMPY 4 elves 4 vinyards 3 cursed scrolls 4 river boas 4 elvish archers 4 muscle slivers 4 trained armadons 2 rootwallas 2 uktabi orange Tang 2 stampeding wildebeasts 4 overrun 3 giant growths 2 provoke 18 forests sb: 4 lifeforces 2 uktabi orange Tang 3 emerald charms 3 scragnoths some other stuff i like this deck alot. it is unbelievably fast, getting 4th-5th turn overrun kills and crushing stuff like necro, white weenie, and blue control, with vineyards if they happen to deal with the creatures. sideboard is very anti perish/disk, and blue. i was thinking about something to replace the vineyards with vs. green decks with more stuff, but i am not sure. RED GREEN BEATDOWN (yes, i do know that you can play multiple colors in the same deck... but i dont like the idea) 4 muscle slivers 4 spiny slivers 4 fireslingers 4 granjer guildmages 4 elves 4 trained armandons 2 suq ata lancers 2 overrun 3 cursed scrolls 4 g growth 4 incinerates 4 karplusan forests 2 dep land 2 undiscovered paradise 2 mountains 12 forests sb: 3 lifeforces 4 orange Tang 2 boils 2 scragnoths 2 tranquil domains 2 wildfires red green is pretty strong. i am trying the slivers instead of archers and riverboas i am not sure which is better yet. this deck would be great if it could beat sligh consistently. PROPA ORB 4 wrath of gods 4 impulse 2 armageddons 4 winter orbs 4 propaganda 2 spirit mirrors 4 power sinks 4 counters 1 feldon's cane 3 gerrards wisdom 2 aura of silence 3 sky diamond 3 marble diamond 3 quicksands 2 reflecting pools 3 adarkars 3 thalakos lowlands 3 undiscovered paradise 4 plains 4 islands sb: 2 jesters caps 2 auras of silence 4 disenchants 1 gerrards wisdom 4 chill 2 pendral mists i dont know what this deck gained from stronghold. maybe i am missing something but i think nothing. i played almost this exact deck for awhile and never did worse than the finals for about 6 weeks straight. then more and more people played control; so i moved on, sick of hour long games getting called on time. with a good mana draw, this deck never loses to burn and after sideboard necro is crushed by the auras. PROSPEROUS BLOOM 4 cadblooms 4 prosperitys 4 nat blances 4 squandered resources 4 infernal contracts 4 impulses 4 vampiric tutors 2 meditates 1 pursuit of knowledges 1 drain life 2 power sinks 2 abeyances 2 mox diamonds 4 gemstone mines 2 undiscovereds 3 cities of brass 1 plains 4 swamps 4 forests 4 islands sb: 3 disenchants 4 city of solitudes 4 chills 2 power sinks 2 interdict the infamous prosperous bloom. it just doesn't go away. this deck can always do good as long as it is played well and gets descent draws. most of the time at the start of a new set's release, there are more offensive decks in the field... and this deck crushes those. BLUE/GREEN BOUNCE 4 tradewinds 4 wall of blossoms 3 bottle gnomes 3 firewalkers 4 awakening 3 capsizes 3 propagandas 4 counters 3 dissipates 3 mana leaks 4 impulses 4 u/g pains 4 reflecting pools 6 forests 8 islands i dont know about a sideboard for this deck. i think this deck is really strong and fun to play. i think awakening is the name of the card that untaps everything everyturn, so you will be able to go capsize/tradewind crazy! opponents always die with no permanents on the board. i am sure some decks that i haven't tried or seen will be strong also(like that haunting misery thing), also test white weenie and blue fish...those might also be regional contenders. right now the deck to beat here in san diego is alan comer and his new 75 card goofy gaes deck. look for that deck somewhere on the dojo...it is very good. this is getting really long and southpark is starting... so thanx for reading if you got this far and i hope this helps someone. -adam vieyra "i LOVE the smell of commerce in the morning!" brodie bruce -mallrats
