Subject: Haups Date: Sat, 21 Mar 1998 03:16:07 -0800 From: Taylors I beleive it was Jeffery Boes who was asking for suggestions on beating the Scroll. I was thinking of using Jokulhaups, and this is what I came up with. I'd like to hear any comments about this deck. 4 Jokulhaups 2 Sylvan Library 4 Gaea's Blessing 4 Mulch 3 Emerald Charm 4 Incinerate 3 Shock 4 Llanowar Elves 4 Wall of Blossoms 2 Stampeding Wildebeast 4 Mana Vault 1 Undiscovered Paradise 2 Gemstone Mine 2 Quicksand 3 Karplusan Forest 7 Forests 7 Mountains If you assume everyone is attempting to empty their hand to Scroll you, the Haups seems like the perfect card to deal with the problem. The Sylvans, Blessings and Mulches should fill up your hand, and give you some high-quality draws. Anything you lose to the Mulches or Haups should get blessed right back in. Due to this, I didn't want to run too much land. The Emerald Charm should deal with enchantments, and it's so cheap it had to be used. Incinerate and Shock are quick creature eliminators that can buy you some time. The Elves let you recover from or cast the Haups faster. The Walls are great with the Haups and the Wildebeasts, and are solid blockers in their own right. The Beasts should be the kill card. The Vaults are essential for this deck, I think. They allow you to cast the 3rd turn Haups if it's needed, but I think 5th would probably be more prudent, most of the time. The Jokulhaups are the only spells you can cast with the Vaults though, and that should probably be looked into. A sideboard for this deck would necessarily be heavily anti-blue, but hey, this is green/red. No problem. I've never played a Haups deck though, and I'd love to hear any opinions or insights. Thanks a lot.
