Unlike the commonly discussed Mogg Maniac trick, I'm not relying on Furnace of Rath at all. One four-point Earthquake with 2 en-Kor and a Maniac out does 20 points to your opponent. Meanwhile Earthquake is a great defensive card, and only needs one red mana, so it's much more generally useful than that Furnace that will sit in your hand while you wait for a third mountain. I first knew I would love this deck type when I won a booster draft side tournament at the D.C. prerelease with lots of en-Kor and some red, including a Phoenix. You have to play with or against them to fully appreciate it, but the En-Kor are just unbelievable. I realize it seems like a strong statement, but I really think the combination of en-Kor and the new walls spell the end of tournament winning Sligh decks. 1 Mox Diamond 8 Mountain 8 Plains 2 Undiscovered Paradise 2 Gemstone Mine 1 Reflecting Pool 4 Nomads en-Kor (The second best 1CC creature in Type II today) 4 Shaman en-Kor (Forget the second special ability - he's a 1/2 en-Kor for 1W) 4 Warrior en-Kor (a 2/2 en-Kor for WW - what's not to like?) 2 Disenchant (There's plenty to target in the current environment) 4 Flickering Ward (This slot has been in flux for me. Obviously they work great as a sink for the en-Kor, but Walls or Abeyance's might be more useful in some environments) 4 Mogg Maniac (Not just a good combo card as some have incorrectly claimed. A Maniac is also the ultimate chump blocker. At 1R he stands just fine on his own.) 4 Mogg Fanatic (The best 1CC creature in Type II) 4 Earthquake (A great all-around anti-weenie card that can also be a finisher, and of course, forms good combos with the en-Kor, bird, and Maniac seperately, and a killer combo with en-Kor and the Maniac) 2 Shard Phoenix (HammerBirdQuake is an alternative Earthquake, and again only needs one R mana.) 4 Incinerate (I think regenerators will become more prevalent in the post-Stronghold environment, with all the en-Kor, and new removal spells that destroy instead of bury.) 2 Fireblast (just a great kill card, but we don't have enough mountains to use more) Sideboard would want more Disenchants, and probably some anti-counter stuff like Abeyance, and Pyroblast so you can force the Earthquake through. Also some anti-black color hoser like Karma and/or Light of Day. Bob Chalmers
