Subject: Two Stronghold decks Date: Thu, 12 Mar 1998 12:10:19 -0700 From: Nick Floyd To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Here are a couple of decks I have been working on since Stronghold was released. The first one is just for fun. I don't know if has the potential for a tournament deck. See if you can work with it. The second deck has definite tournament potential. Try them out and let me know what you think. Earthquake en-Kor 3 Shaman en-Kor 4 Soltari Priest 3 Mistmoon Griffin 4 Warrior en-Kor 4 Nomads en-Kor 3 Smite 3 Disenchant 4 Mogg Maniac 4 Earthquake 1 Inferno 4 Incinerate 2 Undiscovered Paradise 3 Scabland 2 Dwarven Ruins 11 Plains 5 Mountains This deck starts out like a white weenie deck. By mid game it becomes a direct damage deck. The Earthquakes and Inferno will deal damage to all the Kor creatures which can be redirected to a Priest, a single Kor, or a Griffin. The best combo comes with a Maniac in play. I have dealt 20 points of damage to my opponent with one Earthquake. This deck probably needs some work. Tell me what you think. Mind Prison 1 Thalakos Mistfolk 2 Pendrell Mists 4 Propaganda 4 Mind Games 4 Impulse 2 Capsize 4 Counterspell 4 Mana Leak 4 Memory Lapse 4 Winter Orb 4 Sapphire Medallion 3 Svyelunite Temple 2 Quicksand 19 Islands Sideboard I don't have a sideboard yet. It is mostly going to depend on your area. With the popularity of red I would think Chill and Hydroblast are in for sure. This deck is a mono blue Winter Orb lock down deck using Mind Games instead of the "out of Standard" Icy Manipulator. It takes a lot of damage early on. Don't be afraid to take it in the beginning. I have won games at 1 life. 2 Medallions will lower the buyback of Mind Games to one blue making it better at controlling the board than Icys. With a handful of lands you can tap two of opponent's lands, your orb and still have mana left over. Most opponents will concede when locked up but if they don't there is the one Mistfolk that can either attack 10 times or be drawn over and over again to deck your opponent. I haven't tested this one too much. I think it may need another color (maybe white for tutors) but I am afraid of screwing up the mana intense blue cards. Tell me what you think.
