Subject: Scroll/Bridge/Tongs -- is it a type unto itself? Date: Wed, 11 Mar 1998 17:05:33 -0600 From: Chris Warren In the metagame discussion, someone mentioned that Cursed Scroll, Scalding Tongs, and Ensnaring Bridge made up a deck (or decktype) by themselves. The synergy is obvious, then throw in something else to make it more solid and you have a deck. Well, half my deck ideas come from taking people's throwaway ideas about the environment or a certain card, and actually building it and seeing if it works. So, being the green-loving sorta fellow I am, I decided to try a bunch of stuff with it, but green first. I figured green had LD for the early slowdown, has some lifegain, some fast mana, blessings for recycling, and removal of ANYTHING. So, here's what I came up with: Land [21] -- May be a little light 13 forest 4 quicksand 4 wasteland LD [14] -- Some doubles as general control, plus the 4 wastes. 2 Fallow Earth -- not really LD, but slowdown, so good enough 4 Winter's Grasp 4 Creeping Mold 4 Desert Twister General Control [4] 2 Tranquil Grove 2 Crumble The 12-pack [duh] 4 Ensnaring Bridge 4 Scalding Tongs 4 Cursed Scroll Odds and Ends [9] 2 Natural Spring 3 Gaea's Blessing 4 Harrow Well, it works pretty well. I had a problem with a Fish deck. One game, a Winter Orb creamed me, and another it was a Tradewind rider. The Tradewind might be tough, I'm trying to think of a better solution than Hurricane, which is what I tossed in the SB. The Crumbles went in for the Orbs, and ended up being handy against Disks, and if nothing else, I can eat a spare Bridge for 3 life. Any thoughts or ideas on this would be appreciated, I'm planning on trying something similar with the 12-pack for the other colors, so any ideas in that direction too, would be appreciated. --Chris
