Of course I've just noticed someone elses version of the same thing idea!!! Well, personally, I think this version is better since it has 8 critter-U mana producers rather than just 4. The infinite untap idea is not mine. I first read of it in Glenn MacEachern's article 'Elvish Bomb'. I tried playing it like that and tuning it but found that it was too fragile as an infinite mana engine for burn! Hence, upon thinking about how you could improve the deck, I returned to the basis of the combo and then asked myself how could it best be utilised. I think this deck is probably one of the better ideas and more stable for an untap combo! (but then what would I know! ;P ) Anyway, here's my version of the basic deck. Deck SideBoard 4 Intruder Alarm 1 Mana Leak 4 Shrieking Drake 2 Power Sinks 3 Rootwater Tim 4 Pyroblast 3 Prodigal Tim 4 Blue Elemental Blast 3 Suq'Atar Tim 4 Chill 3 Llanowar Sentinel 4 Birds of Paradise 4 Quirion Elves The side board is only a basic idea 1 Mirri's Guile and it's mainly anti-red. I have to 1 Scroll Rack give it some thought as to Enchantment 2 Wordly Tutor protection, other than the counters! 3 Impulse 3 Mana Leaks 2 Power Sinks 11 Islands (I'm thinking of trying 12 Is., 8 Forest) 9 Forest The important stuff... Average Casting Cost 2.22 Mana 0.70 (U) 0.35 (G) 1.17 (colourless) Mana Curve 11-11-16-(2) ...the (2) is the two Sinks 24 Creatures 16 Spells 20 Lands (28 Mana sources) I first played this deck without the Sentinels, Rack and Tutor and it was quite solid. I had more Tim's, another Guile and 2 Wood Sages. However, I like it better in this format as the Sentinels give a more solid creature base and the tutors, being more efficient than the Sage's, can set up a win either from the infinte poke combo or through a sentinel beatdown! Another card to try in this deck is vitalize! I have a friend playing this deck without the counter spells, although I find them useful in protecting my endgame, or slowing down my opponent long enough to get the deck going! He's also only playing 18 lands and sometimes feels the screw tightening!!! Admitedly, I haven't played this deck against really good competition decks, rather only good social ones and I'm sure it would be much the worse off for doing so!!! However, it hasn't failed to win by turn 10 in any game so far...it's usually in endgame by about t5 to t6! I would really like to hear from people with ideas on how to improve the deck or ideas for a sideboard. If you've got comments, send 'em to me! Tim Wilkin 'scrub to the very end!' taw@cs.monash.edu.au
