Subject: Re: MTG-STRATEGY-L Digest - 2 Mar 1998 to 3 Mar 1998 Date: Tue, 3 Mar 1998 01:58:31 -0800 From: Taylors I came up with another Stronghold deck. I realize everybody hates Stronghold, but it does have a FEW interesting cards. Lab Rats might be good enough to build a deck around. No, not a cheesy rat deck. More like a Counterpost deck, only more fun. This deck is the CounterRat. Creatures: 6 4 Lab Rats 1 Necrosavant 1 Crovax the Cursed (I had to) Disruption: 6 4 Nevinyrral's Disk 2 Lobotomy Countermagic: 8 4 Counterspell 3 Dissipate Creature Removal: 9 4 Diabolic Edict 2 Wall of Tears 2 Death Stroke Library Manipulation: 5 4 Impulse 1 Vampiric Tutor Mana: 28 4 Dark Rituals 3 Quicksand 4 Underground River 2 Reflecting Pool 9 Island 6 Swamp This deck likes to generate a couple of Rat tokens and then either swarm the opponent after a Disk, or generate massive beat with Crovax and Necrosavant. The counters should be used to kill other counters and to protect your Disks. The Quicksands and creature removal, possibly supplemented with Rat tokens, should keep you alive long enough to get down a protected Disk and get control. There aren't any Whispers or Capsizes because I expect to have my mana tied up with Rats. The Lobotomies will hopefully allow for a quick emasculation of other control decks. Since this will probably be a late-game deck I will not use Mana Leak. Give me some feedback. The list has been pretty quiet for the last couple of days.
