Subject: B/U Beatdown (post-Stronghold) Date: Sat, 28 Feb 1998 18:23:50 PST From: "Neil Conway" To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Here is a new deck for post-Stronghold play- B/U Forgotten Leaky Orb :-) ver. 0.9 (fine, maybe the name needs work...) Deck Skeleton: 24 Creatures 6 Counters 3 Worbs + 1 Tutor 7 Removal 19 Lands Creatures: 4 Black Knight 4 Fallen Askari 4 Shadow Guildmage 4 Man-o-War 4 Dauthi Slayer 4 Pit Imp (Cloud Elemental?) Counters: 3 Memory Lapse 3 Mana Leak Removal: 3 Diabolic Edict 4 Funeral Charm Worbs: 3 Winter Orb 1 Vampiric Tutor (either to get the Worb, or if I have it already then to get something else) Lands: (just thrown together - I’ll work on it later but I think 19 is at least close to the right number) 4 Undiscovered Paradise (with Worb and Guildmages) 1 Gemstone Mine (for the Guildmages) 2 Rootwater Depths 2 Reflecting Pool 10 basic land Sideboard Ideas: - 3 Dread of Night - 3 Perish - 2 Lobotomy (versus slow decks, combo decks, and anything I feel I need a super Coercion against) - 4 Chill - 1 Winter Orb (if the opponent is particularly vulnerable to them...) - ??? (Diabolic Edict, Power Sink, Propaganda, Suq’Ata Firewalker, Disrupt, ??) Some thoughts- - This is the second version of the deck. The first version had a few (3) higher casting cost creatures (Tradewind Riders and Nekrataals), as well as a Lobotomy. I took these out as well as some mana so that it would be more of a swarm type deck. However, do I have enough mana to use my counters effectively? I think so, but I’m not sure... - Wall of Tears in the sideboard (versus swarm decks that can’t get rid of it...) - I’m considering including some higher casting cost creatures. I want to go mana light, and so I have been able to get the mana curve to top out at 2. I would like some Nekrataals, and possibly a Tradewind Rider or two, but will this force me to add more mana? - I don’t think the deck is mana light but it is possible. It depends on how risky you want to play the deck and how much LD there is in the environment. - This deck beats the craze for Cursed Scroll this and Cursed Scroll that. Worb makes the scroll useless. - I think that B/U worb will be a strong deck in the post-Stronghold environment... - I just thought about Propaganda while typing this up. I will need a way to deal with it, but I haven’t come up with a good one yet (maybe Discard [i.e. Lobotomy], splash for white, splash for green, Disk or something...) - 4 Chills and 5 Worbs (or 5 Chills and 4 Worbs) should be enough to slow down even Sligh. If I add some Propagandas, then Sligh should be quite died. - Just keep in mind that the mana ratio and the sideboard are just thrown together on the spot, without much consideration. - The Funeral Charms look good, but I haven't playtested them yet... I might replace them with 1 Edict, 1 Counter and 2 Creatures if they don't work out, but for the moment I am excited about them. I gratefully welcome any comments. Hope you like it, Neil Conway ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
