Subject: "Mind Anvil" Date: Wed, 25 Feb 1998 19:19:20 -0500 From: "Wolfman" To: Hey, Looking at the Stronghold spoiler list, I noticed that black discard is better than ever. Megrim is a violent and horrible card, so what better to do than play with it. Here's a deck I call "Mind Anvil." Testing shows the deck is brutal. But, this is only v1, alterations will likely occur. The deck is entirely Type II legal as of April 1st. "Mind Anvil" v.1 ---------------------- Discard: 4 Stupor - two cards, four life - what a deal! 4 Coercion - remove the combo breaker 2 Disrupting Scepter - with Megrim it's a Cursed Scroll, but better Creatures: 4 Dauthi Mindripper - three cards, plus shadow 4 Mindstab Thrull - three cards, six life - ouch! 2 Coffin Queen - another run with Thrulls and 'Rippers 2 Wall of Souls - early defense, run your fatty into me, please! Gravy: 4 Megrim - key to the deck, discard becomes DD 2 Anvil of Bogardan - deck thinning, two damage 4 Dark Ritual - speed 4 Diabolic Edict - creature removal (maybe banish?) 2 Ensnaring Bridge - 1/X creatures can attack is discard working Land: 1 Volrath's Stronghold - get those creatures back 21 Swamp - mana Basically, the deck works on Megrim. I worry that this might be too heavy emphasis on the one card, but discard itself is pretty strong, this only adds insult to injury. A mini-theme is recycling the creatures which is brutal with Mindrippers and Mindstabs. All in all I like the playtests, but no sideboards as of yet. You can be sure Gloom, Dread of Night and Perish will be in there. I only really fear White Weenie and Stompy, maybe Propa-Orb. Prosbloom is weak vs. discard if played early. Comments always welcome.
