Subject: A cool new Stronghold card and deck Date: Mon, 23 Feb 1998 06:28:55 PST From: "Owen Landgren" To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Frank, At the pre-release on Saturday I saw a card that has the potential to be severely abused. That card is Awakening. The ability to completely tap out in a G/U deck to cast creatures, and then also untap during their upkeep to cast Counterspells and such is invaluable. The Awakening also doubles creature effects. Most notable of these is the Tradewind Rider. An Awakening with a Rider equals doom for most decks that use land based mana. It really works very well. You can get a lock out on turn five or six- surviving till then is easy, and once it hits, say goodnight. Capsizing on your turn and thier turn also works very well. This is a sample deck I worked up this weekend. It probably needs tuning, but here it is. Awakened Rider- 4 Tradewind Rider 4 Awakening 4 Llanowar Elf 2 Wall of Roots 4 Wall of Blossoms 4 Birds of Paradise 4 Man o'War 2 Wall of Tears 4 Mana Leak 2 Meditate 4 Impulse 1 Mask of the Mimic 1 Silver Wyvern 10 Forest 8 Island 2 Undiscovered Paradies This deck locks hard, and it locks fast. Use the walls to survive the early game, the counters to keep the Tradewinds alive. On your turn you can bounce a Wall of Blossoms to draw a card. The Silver Wyvern or the Man o'Wars kill the opponent. The Mask of the Mimic is for duplicating a Tradewind fast. Once you hit 2 Tradewinds, the game is over. The only things that this deck doesn't like are Wraths and Legacy's Allures. Stay alive and have fun. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
