From: tjpitts@txdirect.net Newsgroups: rec.games.trading-cards.magic.strategy Subject: Mainz Qual Sample Draft ...#2 Date: Fri, 12 Sep 1997 15:59:34 -0500 Here's another sample draft for Mainz quals..... http://www.massmed.org/elliott/magic/interface.html The cards are sorted by color... I'll follow with what I drafted. If you're interested, take the requisite time and draft your deck. Please post with your differences/suggestions etc... I don't pretend to be a fabulous sealed deck player; perhaps some of us non-pros can learn from each other... :) I got good feedback from the first one so I'll do this a few more times. The people posting Mirage-Visions decks the last time around helped me so I'm happy to do the same. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Land Artifacts Black Blue ---- --- ---- ---- Forest Aladdin's Ring Crypt Rats Betrayal Forest Cursed Land Flight Forest Dancing Death Watch Knight Of The Forest Scimitar Erg Raiders Mists Havenwood Fountain of Fallen Angel Mystic Veil Battleground Youth Fear Shrieking Drake Island Iron-Heart Frozen Shade Unsummon Island Chimera Gloom Updraft Island Lead-Belly Lost Soul Vanishing Island Chimera Necromancy Vision Charm Jungle Basin Meekstone Pestilence Zephyr Falcon Mountain Phyrexian Pit Scorpion Mountain Marauder Raise Dead Mountain Phyrexian Tar Pit Warrior Mountain Walker Wicked Reward Plains Sisay's Ring Plains Wall of Spears Plains Plains Plains Green Red White Swamp --- ---- ---- Swamp Aurochs Dwarven Circle of Swamp Giant Growth Vigilantes Protection: Blue Swamp Ironroot Dwarven Warriors Daraja Griffin Swamp Treefolk Fireblast Greater Realm of Urza's Mine Katabatic Firebreathing Preservation Winds Flare Hope Charm Ley Druid Hulking Cyclops Repentant Mortal Wound Raging Gorilla Blacksmith Pradesh Raging Gorilla Shield Bearer Gypsies Solfatara Sun Clasp Rabid Wombat Tremor Tundra Wolves Scavenger Folk Spider Climb Untamed Wilds Wall of Brambles ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Web Sealed Deck Generator was written by Toby Elliott ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- . . . . . My choices follow . . . .. . First cut at the deck is 'geez that's a lot of artifacts!' It looks like an Antiquities sealed, where artifacts are a primary color... Black is a no-brainer primary color. Two broken removal cards in Pestilence and Crypt Rat, plus the bomb creature enchantment Fear, and a card that gives players incontinence problems: Cursed Land. While not as strong as Wanderlust or Maddening Wind, Cursed Land is still huge in a defensive sealed deck... Red provides a built-in Dwarf combo and the only true removal spell in the deck. The Warriors are huge with the right complements, and the Shade, Vigilantes, and Firebreathing are all strong. Cyclops adds much needed beef and the Gorilla twins are must-plays in a deck this creature light. Looking at the other three colors, blue has a few good control cards, but nothing to back them up. Green has some solid choices, Gypsies, Wilds, and Treefolk are all good splash cards. Wall of Brambles is another solid choice. But I decided to go with white. Hope Charm rules in sealed, and Sun Clasp is one of the best enhancers out there. I decided that since the deck's typical route to victory is a midgame Pestilence/Rat bomb followed up by beatdown, early defense was critical. Shield Bearer is the only bander available, and seemed to work well with the rest of the deck. Plus, I avoid the 15% chance my opponent can hammer me with a dryad... I'm not sold on the choice, and might change colors as a sideboard option (especially against heavy white so I can bring in Gloom)... I chose not to play the meekstone in the main deck, though I could definitely see bringing it in... 8 Swamps Crypt Rats Dw Vigilantes Scimitar 6 Mountain Cursed Land Dw Warriors Ftn of Youth 3 Plains Erg Raiders Fireblast Wall of Spears Fallen Angel Firebreathing Fear Flare Hope Charm Frozen Shade Hulking Cyclops Shield Bearer Necromancy Raging Gorilla Sun Clasp Pestilence Raging Gorilla Tar Pit Warrior Once again, feel free to flame my choices as long as you can give better ones :) This deck is all about "I necromancy the Crypt Rat as an instant..." -- TJ Pitts - Madmart on IRC "Saving Dominia's Forests, One Orcish Lumberjack at a Time" Forests saved so far... 1906 and counting Original Member - Team Fruity-Ass Taller than anyone you know...
