Subject: Re: Scott's White Weatherlight Thoughts From: sprmario@netcom.com (Mario Robaina) Date: 1997/06/02 I love it when bad judges of cards try to analyze them.... This guy totally discounts the very best cards in this set in both Limited and constructed environments. This card and Peace talks are crap. >Alabaster Dragon Summon Dragon 4WW 4/4 WL-R >Flying >If Alabaster Dragon is put into any graveyard from play, shuffle Alabaster >Dragon into its owner's library. > >Fun. A lot like Archangel, but almost playable. A large flier with a >pretty neat ability, but Pearl dragon is generally better. This is awesome in sealed and is just about the best large flyer you could use in type II. >Peacekeeper Summon Peacekeeper 2W 1/1 WL-R >During your upkeep, pay 1W or bury Peacekeeper. >Creatures cannot attack. > >In combination with wrath of god, this card could be great. WOW! He got on right... yes this is an excellent card. >Southern Paladin Summon Knight 2WW 3/3 WL-R >WW,T: Destroy target red permanent. > >Color hoser. I miss Northern Paladin. This could be a really >great card and I expect it to see some play. .. This card is really X1W to cast where X is the cost of the highest casting cost creature on your side, or 1W to kill the two largest creatures on both sides. Being a Sorcery really hurts this card, but it might be the best creature removal for White in control decks. If you have no creatures in play... then Tariff is pretty good... >Foriysian Brigade Summon Soldiers 3W 2/4 WL-U >Foriysian Brigade may block two creatures each combat. SOlid card in sealed. 4 toughness creatures in white at a reasonable cost are nice. >Gerrard's Wisdom Sorcery 2WW WL-U >For each card in your hand, gain 2 life. > >Alright, could be great fun with howling mines. . . Terrible card. Never put this card in ANY deck that you are remotely interested in winning with. >Master of Arms Summon Soldier 2W 2/2 WL-U >First Strike. 1W: Tap target creature blocking Master of Arms. > >Expensive, mana intensive. But at least one in every griffin deck >to get the Mtendas back out. This creature builds in card advantage... Use it if you can in Sealed play. A 2/2 for 4 isn't good enough in constructed. All the Griffons are excellent for limited play. >Serra's Blessing Enchantment 1W WL-U >Attacking does not cause creatures you control to tap. > >Fun, but again, wouldn't you want a crusade if you're playing mono-white? >Great in green decks, though. . . This is not a constructed deck card either... use it in Sealed. >Ardent Militia Summon Soldiers 4W 2/5 WL-C >Attacking does not cause Ardent Militia to tap. > >5 mana for a 2/5 that doesn't tap is pretty dull. Boring yet one of the best creatures for White in Sealed deck. With a couple of these guys on the table, you're just not getting by with ground creatures. >Benalish Knight Summon Knight 2W 2/2 WL-C >First Strike. You may play Benalish Knight whenever you could play an >instant. > >Hmmm. . . play an expensive white knight with less abilities as an instant. > No thanks. An incredibly powerful sealed card. >Benalish Missionary Summon Cleric W 1/1 WL-C >1W,T: Target blocked creature deals no combat damage this turn. > >I like Peacekeepers MUCH better. > >Duskrider Falcon Summon Falcon 1W 1/1 WL-C >Flying, protection from black. > >Nice card. Make any creature a >huge maro. Play mulitple of these on a creature for real fun! I still >think creature enchantments generally suck, but this one's pretty neat. This card is totally broken in limited play, and might be the best creature enchantment in the game... i'm tying to figure out how people will deal with a 6/6 or 7/7 white knight on turn 3 even in a constructed environment...Some colors have no way to stop that. >Heavy Ballista Summon Soldiers 3W 2/3 WL-C >T: Heavy Ballista deals 2 damage to target attacking or blocking creature. > >8/10 on the whiz bang factor, those who've played with the D. Archers know >that this card doesn't work really well. Another totally broken card in sealed. This card is worth splashing white to play with. This card is on par with Torches and Savage Twisters in sealed play. Later, Mario. -- sprmario@netcom.com
