Subject: Competitive Magic on ESPN and Home Video Date: Mon, 26 Oct 1998 10:40:20 -0800 (PST) From: Mark Rosewater To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com For those that watched last night's ESPN2 show or have seen the Home Video of the 1998 U.S. Nationals, you'll notice that we at Wizards of the Coast have made numerous changes since last year's ESPN show. These changes were a result of numerous factors including the feedback from all of you the players/viewers. This year I hoped to use the Magic Dojo to spur a conversation about how competitive Magic should be covered both on television (through venues such as ESPN2) and home video. To help spur this conversation I offer the following questionnaire: 1) What did you enjoy about this year's ESPN2 show of the 1998 World Championships? 2) What did you not like about the ESPN2 show? 3) What changes were made between last year's show and this year's show that was positive? 4) What changes were negative? 5) What changes would you make for future shows? 6) What did you enjoy about this year's Nationals Home Video? 7) What did you not like about this year's Nationals Home Video? 8) What changes would you make for future home videos? It is my hope that these questions will spawn a discussion. It is our hope at Wizards of the Coast to turn competitive Magic into a spectator sport. To do that it is crucial that we create an audience that wants to watch competetive Magic being played. As Dojo readers are the core of this audience, your feedback is fundamental to our success. If you do not wish to make a public response, or simply wish to fill me in personally, feel free to write to me at woody@wizards.com . Once again, it is only by hearing what our audience likes, dislikes and wants that we at Wizards of the Coast can provide the best coverage possible of competitive Magic. Sincerely, Mark Rosewater
