Subject: WOTC banning policy....??? Date: Wed, 2 Dec 1998 08:55:14 -0600 (CST) From: "Forrest M. Lee" To: wotc wotc , dualist , Frank When first heard the rumor that windfall, tolarian academy and recuring/whale were gonna be banned I didn't give it much thought. I had thought how could Wizards ban all those cards? When a few summers ago they didn't ban Necropotence? I had thought it only been a month, they can't ban them because thier hasn't been sufficient time to evaluate them as "unbalanced"? I was dead wrong on Dec 1st "D-day" when wizards basically put the one deck I had championed as my own up in smoke in a matter of only one month? In one swoop they banned both academy and windfall two key components in my deck. I being a college student could barely afford the 250 bucks worth of trades and cash to make this deck (around 130 cash, 120 trades-my old dual land collection *sniff*)! Now those cards have dropped down in value to about 30%, spending this amount of money I remind wotc is an investment I intent to recover when I trade up to next tourney worthy deck. Now my investment can not get me another deck- this reminds me of another way you alienated collectors back in the days of chronicles- by devalueing are cards. If you are gonna continue this why not produce legal to play collecter sets, juzams, and power 9's? Becuase it is ridiculous thats why! You made a rash judgement banning academy not giving people suffiecient time to find out wich methods deal with academy? I had found several ways to kill academy, land destruction, artifact distruction, and cards that change land types among many others! By banning a deck not many people understand you have done us a diservice! Of course in Urza's Legacy you could have created counter cards to deal with it! Lemme see you have done this in past sets and it has worked, stasis, and pros bloom had cards that foiled them. You didn't ban the whale of recursion combo, and that in my opinion as of most other magic players is almost as potent! The tourney scene has been reduced to mindless weenie (prob ww/sligh/sui black) and recursion. I thought magic was supposed to be a mental sport? so whay take most strategy out by making it a primarily weenie based- are you trying to cater to portal players who are new and just don't have the mental capacity to fully handle advanced sets?? (btw, I am not knocking portal it is good for the sport of magic). I am a poor college student who doesn't want to buy another deck to have it banned in only a month, so its worthless? I have heard another truth-rumor that you are removing interupts- don't do it lest you want to lose even more people from magic. I know on the net about 20 people who quit yesterday-and I don't even know very many of them (the players)! So please wotc unban this BIG mistake you made of refund me the prices as they were on the 2ndary market. Sincerly, Forrest m. Lee P.S. I am currently pictureing the card by mark rosewater in the dualist for unglued "Look at me I am the DCI"-kinda makes you wonder if thats the secret method of selection!
