Subject: Giving up, for now...... Date: Sat, 14 Nov 1998 14:36:50, -0500 From: GXHC96C@prodigy.com (MR CORY N STEVENSON) To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com I don't know where else to turn. I want to be heard for once in my life not as a number, but a real person. I have some things to say. Some of you may agree with and some may not. But everything I say is true, whether you choose to believe it or not. I feel like I'm one of many voices when going into this but here it goes. I think by now most of you have heard the Type 2 deck known simply as "The Academy". I believe, in my not so humble opinion, that this deck is a disease. Mind Over Matter is the card that needs to be banned. Now I know what some of you out there might be thinking. "Why that one?" Answer: It's the engine for the deck, without it you can't win. "I thought WotC said they weren't going to ban anything else from Type 2 anymore?" Answer: Rath Cycle Constructed is still Type 2 (Standard), the only difference between the current Standard format and Cycle constructed is 2 things, 1-Type 2 also has use of Urza's Saga and 5th Edition AND Cursed Scroll, 2-Rath Cycle Constructed uses only Tempest, Stronghold, and Exodus expansions WITHOUT being able to use Cursed Scroll. If Cursed Scroll is banned from a format that is DCI Standard format, then why did WotC "say what they said"? Here's food for thought, remember "Black Summer"? That summer people who wanted to have a chance in Type 2 were either playing Necro or something to beat Necro (Sligh or White Weenie). The exception now besides the obvious is that you're not on a clock when playing against "The Academy" you can concievably lose by the average of 3rd turn. "With the one I built, it goes off 1st turn 20% of the time."- Anonymous Pro-Tour level player. 20%! One Fifth! That means every five games he plays with this deck, he wins on his first turn an average of once every time! I know my number has come up a few times. The deck is even worse in Type 1. "If I can't win by turn 3, then I must have drawn the worst hand ever."-Anonymous player not yet on the Pro Tour but could be. In conclusion to all this mess I have this to say to the DCI and WotC: Fix this problem, soon. People are starting to get discouraged. They are saying "why bother playing anymore?" I agree with them. If any of you out there know what I'm saying then you know I'm right. The people who choose not to listen are the ones who are dishing out these beatings and/or have paid alot of money to build this deck. Any of you who think that this problem will not be fixed or in denial. If any of you honestly think that "The Academy" isn't that much of a problem then you need to also do the world a favor and remove yourself from the gene pool. That's all, I'm out. Cory Stevenson
