I have played since beta came out so I have seen how magic has changed over the years. What I cant get over in Magic today is the "That's Bahhh-roken" syndrome. There are many posts in the Dojo's community issues forum about this or that card being too powerful, and how they should be banned from tournament play. The last time I saw posts like this was in the few first months when Cursed scroll hit the scene. I read a pro players article about how it ruined "good game play" and unbalanced the environment. Months later the decks to beat include weenie decks control decks and combo decks, and even a weenie deck without the "Bahhroken" scroll. The World champ deck turned out to be a FIVE color deck. WHen dual mana were taken out of print everyone stated that multi color decks were a thing of the past... So my point is that as people complain about how Wotc is killing the sport I think they have improved it more than you realize. Would everyone like to go back to the days when 2/1 or 2/2 critters, Worbs, and geddons dominated the scene? Or the days when there were 3 decks to play, either join the club or lose. Today in Magic you see every kind of deck. So how is the sport hurting? Wotc has made creature enchantments playable, large creatures playable (echo) and made all decks and colors viable. Maybe not in a mono format but you do see every color played. I have to agree, when someone plays me on the net with an Academy deck, I don't have much fun, about as much fun as I did playing ProsBloom. Academy is better than pros bloom, whether or not it should be banned is beyond my grasp of the game. And if you think that you have a good enough grasp to decide on it, ask yourself if you thought Scrolls were "Bahhroken" when they came out.
