Subject: MtG needs more bang for the $$$! Date: Thu, 5 Nov 1998 14:25:25 -0500 From: David Fiorito To: "'fkusumot@ix.netcom.com'" I played competitively for over a year. I bought a ton of cards, both packs and singles. I traded all the time. In the end I have given up the game nearly completely. Why? How can a diehard-never-missed-an-issue-of-the-Duelist-player just drop out of the scene? Simple, the amount of fun I was having for the amount of money I was spending was a losing proposition. Bottom line I left magic because of card rarity, the internet, and the "secondary" market. I resisted dropping $100 to get four Cursed Scrolls, but at tournaments they kept popping up and killing me dead. I ended up losing games to kids whose lawyer fathers financed their kids decks - "How can you afford 4 Scrolls and 4 Mox Diamonds!?!", "My daddy got them for me because I got A's on my 6th grade report card!" - sheesh! Then to top that all off all the decks I played against were all copied off the Internet - sheesh again! So I gave up on paying $10 per card, and playing against spoiled rich kids, dumped the whole thing, and returned to simpler pleasures like chess, hearts, and the odd computer game. My wallet thanked me. What can WotC do to get me back. 1) Stabilize the rules (yes, I know this was not listed above). 2) Make all cards available at the same rarity level. I want to play a game not make a major investment! Don't get me wrong - I still love the game. I just won't play it anymore. Oh, I might buy some pre-constructed decks and play with friends now and again, but never will I get wrapped up in the world of competitive magic again. Cheers, Dave Fiorito
