Damnit. Here we are having a reasonably intelligent Strategy based conversation about Magic. And then someone turns it an anti-Dojo thread. Why? "overuse of the Dojo has created lots of mindless scrubs playing carboncopies of tournament winning decks and therefor greatly reduced the fun of magic that lies in building your own tech" In building your own tech? What does that even mean? How do you build tech? There seems to be a dichotomy in Magic that many people acknowledge. There is 'Fun' Magic, and there is 'Tournament' Magic. NOW HOLD ON! Just because they are seperate, doesn't mean you can't have fun at a tournament. However, the Acadamy deck is not a deck I would take to casual games with my friends, it is not a deck I would show to someone I was trying to teach the game. So when you say "therefor[e] greatly reduced the FUN of magic that lies in building your own..." you are out of line. Either you can argue for fun, in which case the person should not be worried about this deck, or you can argue for tournament magic, in which case it is important that the person get this deck within a couple cards. And that is why the Dojo is great. Perhaps YOU copy decks right from the Dojo, but many of the rest of us read the Dojo to know what is out there. We build/proxy the decks then play AGAINST them. The Dojo is very very good for Magic In article <363F7384.7E7@goodnet.com>, durnik@goodnet.com wrote: > I say again: any Academy player packing Show And Tell is NOT building > the deck right. You can say it again, and say it again, and those of us who know the deck will keep ignoring you. Show and Tell has more subtle uses that you probably missed. Show and Tell is good for so many reasons a) It acts as a Coercion for Counterspells against decks that run counters b) It will let you lay an extra Acadamy as a Lotus c) It can help you thin your deck out for multiple Spirals d) For the reason it is in there, to get MoM out I'm sorry if this post is a little more aggressive than I want it to be. But lately, and especially regaring this Acadamy deck, I have been having this problem. I will make a claim, and state some reasons. Then someon will say "no, you are wrong," and not state any reasons. For example: > I say again: any Academy player packing Show And Tell is NOT building > the deck right. You must NEVER give your opponent the ability to do > ANYTHING... Time Spiral notwithstanding. Once they finally do tap out in > a vain effort to counter... Something... it's all over. While it seems like he is giving a reason, "You must NEVER give your opponent the ability to do ANYTHING..." the reason isn't really backed up by anything. IF I were arguing his side I would list stuff that they could lay that would hurt, like Wasteland, Arcane Laboratory, and so on. BUT I am NOT arguing his side. And had he made the argument I had just made, I would counter with, there are very very few things the non-acadamy player can lay, and almost all of them you can deal with. And since Show and Tell gives you so many other benefits, it is WORTH it to play the card. WylieBlows Team Rogue I don't know whether I should be happy or embarrassed that I can say, "My entire Type 2 rating has been built up by decks that use Summer Bloom and Canopy Spiders as the finisher."
