Subject: Re: Type X Date: Tue, 1 Sep 1998 09:11:26 -0700 (PDT) From: Sean -Mad Dog- Roney To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Shapiro is correct about TX being T1 with a larger list of restricted. I admit that in my creation of TX I did my research in T2 and it abused cards, never bothering to go into the heart of the powerful and un-fun cards. I habe gotten quite a few complaints about T1 cards, and even Unglued cards. I have decided to make quite a few changes to the TX rules. My original idea was to let anyone use any card they had in their collection. My idea was not only to let people have fun games, but to let them have the ability to play with almost all of the cards in their collection, hence the errata to the ante cards. However, I see that the second part of my idea was a bad one. The ability to use nearly any card means that nearly every power card is useable. Fun games don't make use of Channel, Mind Tiwst, and Stasis. Fun players find more wacky means of winning, at least I hope they do. My intent was to have TX reflect that, but I failed, even with the errata to a few of the power cards. Now, here are the cards I am adding to the banned list (and taking off the restricted if they are there, as well as the errata if they are there): All five original moxes. Stasis Necropotence Channel Mind Twist Nevinyrral's Disk Wrath of God Armageddon Jokulhaups Winds of Rath Extinction Cataclysm Balance Time Walk Black Lotus Underworld Dreams Censorship The cards above censorship are there because they are just too powerful. They fit into the power-factor that I should have stressed in my Banned explaination. Censorship is there because it gives way to too many infinite combos. However, if I get enough opinions stating to do so, I will find a way to errata Censorship so that it can be used...probably with errata that destroys itself once it is activated by its controller. Here are the cards I will add to the restricted list (if any of these cards are already restricted, my apologies for not seeing them on my scan through the list): Dark Ritual Orcish Lumberjack Tinder Wall Blood Lust Hatred Necrologia Mox Diamond Volcanic Hammer Chain Lightning Rogue Elephant Kird Ape The spirit of TX is not to win as fast as possible, but to have fun. Nobody likes playing matches that are finished in five minutes (I've seen it happen because of most of these cards way back in T1 days). These cards are too fast and too powerful for their speed. I did leave mana producers such as elves because they are not anywhere near as powerful as these above cards. On the matter of the giant (although a little smaller now) restricted list, I must say that it is needed to keep the TX fun. Despite its difficulty to memorize, I do stress that without these lists TX would be a very degenerated T1. Even though playing TX means having to figure out this massive list, I still encourage it. When building a deck for TX, the main idea is to make it fun and not have any cards that are overly powerful or overly speedy, that way you won't have conflicts with the banned or restricted lists. I will be revising the rules very soon, possibly within a week or so. If anyone has any comments they would like to give about the TX rules, then please contact me. My main problem right now is figuring out which T1 cards are the powerful abusive cards that I have forgotten to add to the lists. I also could use help in figuring out abusive Unglued cards. My hope for TX is to have fun rules to play with, and that cannot happen if old tourney favorites can still be used as powerful tourney winners in TX. I hope any of you who try TX have fun playing with it. There should be a lot of fun involved in really strange decks out there now that you don't have to worry about getting devastated by overly powerful tourney cards.
