Subject: Bad Player Flores in Philly Date: 20 Aug 1998 23:22:47 GMT From: jshuler@osf1.gmu.edu (John M Shuler) Newsgroups: rec.games.trading-cards.magic.strategy here's a peek at something I forwarded along to The Cabal Rogue: -------------------- In other news, BPFlores and I were paired together at the Philly PTQ this weekend in the third round, while we were both 2-0. Me: BPFlores, I would like to offer you an intentional draw, so that we both continue to have a decent chance. BPFlores: No way, I will beat you, my deck is awesome, and you play like a little girl! Besides, we sat together when the decks were handed out, and I know every card in your deck! And you made it wrong, so I am sure to win no matter what! Me: (looking over to Altran, a seat away) Altran, please bear witness that I offered BPFlores this intentional draw. Altran: So beared. BPFlores: Can we get on with this, so I can beat you? Me: (sigh) BPFlores, are you SURE you don't want to ID? BPFlores: (goes into another tirade) Me: Ok, let's play. (game 1) Me: I see you are mighty, with your turn 1 & turn 2 red creatures, BPFlores. BPFlores: I am like Dave Price! Here, have Flowstone Giant beatings as well! Me: But BPFlores, I have only this Armored Pegasus to throw in its way! BPFlores: Soon, you will be dead. Me: But BPFlores, what is that rushing noise? I feel wind.. wind such as that which may only be found in Rath. Is it the Winds of Rath? BPFlores: Damn it, it is. However, I was holding back this 1/1 beatings creature! Me: It is too bad I was only holding back a 3/1 shadow, a 2/1 shadow, and my own 2/2 beatings creature. BPFlores: Why must you make me top-deck this Spontaneous combustion when you are tapped out, and cannot save even your 2/1 shadow guy? Me: Mighty is your magic, BPFlores, perhaps since the board is now clear, I may drop Random Beatings Creature, which will proceed to kill you, as you draw 4 land in a row? BPFlores: Yes, that will probably work. (game 2) BPFlores: This is turn 1 Carnophage, he is mighty. Me: Yes, he strikes with much force. This is turn 4 Coiled Tinviper, he requests that you keep Carnophage tapped. BPFlores: Ah, but because I am BPFlores, I will kindle that Tinviper during your main phase. Me: Ah, then your Carnophage must be afflicted with Cursed Flesh, forever to get tapped during your upkeep from now on. BPFlores: Ah, but now that it is my 6th turn, I must cast my Rathi Dragon, even though I know you have 6 ways in your deck to deal with it easily. Me: Well, the most I can do is wait until the Main Phase of my own sixth turn, when I show you what Capsizewithbuybackwerethoseyouronlytwomountains? does. BPFlores: Well, NOW I will play the Rats of Rath, instead of playing them earlier, so that I could actually fizzle your Capsize. And yes, conceeding probably is a good idea at this point, since my hand is full of red spells which I chose not to cast before the Rathi destroyed my mountains, and I showed what a bad player I am by not drawing any more. ------------------------ BPFlores, I will now give you an opportunity to speak about the Fireslinger Issue, before I inform the Cabal of your actions myself. -- John M. Shuler jshuler at gmu.edu Member of Cabal Rogue -------------------------------------------------------------------- I was in the finals again and my opponent was scared to death of me or perhaps just too nervous from being in the finals. It was 1 game to 1 game, the final game taking the prize. He made so many mistakes. He wasn't a bad player, it was just that he was giving me every chance to win, but I had to be like this: No. I am King Scrub. I will not let you lose. I will only accept 2nd place. - Eric Taylor --------------------------------------------------------------------
