Subject: A law to judge Date: Thu, 27 Aug 1998 13:57:43 +0200 From: Simoncini Massimiliano To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com I'm acquainted with the facts that leade to the exclusion of Mr Gabriele Pisicchio and several other persons from the 1998 World Championship. I'm informed that judges didn't allow Mr Pisicchio to be present at the control of his own deck, and that they refused to demonstrate the trick they claimed Mr Pisicchio was using to tell lands from spells by the back of the card. Not surprisingly, the mechanics of that trick was totally unsubstantial. But this is not the point. I think that this fact shows a serious lack and a basic injustice in the judging system, just as inadequate and uneven is any system allowing somebody (whoever he is) to exert power towards others with no controls nor appeal. These concepts are also well expressed in the letter of Cathy Nicoloff "Crime and Punishment" published in the Dojo net site, where a diffused partiality of judges is also stressed and demonstrated by facts. Therefore, a lack of rules and ethics in the judging system is evident, so that players are completely at the mercy of judge's will (i.e. likes, dislikes and mood) and their variable interpretations of rules. Since punishments can only be consequence of univoc and clear to everybody rules and laws, is evident that no penalties (excepted the unretrievable disqualification from the 1998 World Championship) should be inflicted to Mr Pisicchio as well as all the other players sanctioned in that tourney, and in the next tourneys, untill the behaviour of judges will not be stated and tourney rules themselves will not be clear and univoc. Writing this letter, i suppose that you are trying to become a serious and believable professional league (which you are still not). If that's not the case, i'm sorry to have wasted uslessly your (and mine) precious time.
