Subject: Re: PT's & PTQ's Date: Thu, 17 Sep 1998 16:11:59 +0200 From: sroselier@mmm.com To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Greetings to all, I 've been reading throught the PT's & PTQ's thread, and I've mainly seen one thing: The format rushes so fast people can't keep up with playtesting their deck, can't stay in touch with the metagame, you name it. The thing that sprung to my mind was: The problem is not whether or not the format should be the same, the problem is _the format_. (Rath) Constructed . Type II. Brian Weissman said: "One of the things that I have sorely missed since the Pro Tour began is the presence of a stable format." Jamie Wakefield asked: "Is it good for the game to have a format be good for two months? And then have a pro tour where the format is only good for that Pro Tour?" What about extended? or T 1? or T 1.5? T1 or T1.5 require to much "old" or "power" cards? OK, for the sake of argument I'll say it's true. But not extended. Extended is the solution. But when was the last tournament of that type? I do not speak about some obscure local tournament. I talk about an official made-by-wizard-tournament in this format. I can't even think of one. Extended offers stability in format, since it only _adds_ cards as soon as they leave T2. Every card from The Dark onward is game. You do not need the "Power Nine", you do not need Juzams or Library of alexandria to play it. You do not even need to worry about the "broken" cards because they are not allowed. I do not know about you, but I, for one, would like to remove the dust from my Serras, my Stp, and play them outside of casual play. I'd rather play bolts to shock. And play them in a qualifier (or even a PT for those of you who go there). Of course T2 or other Limited tournament also have some interest, but if _one_, just one of the PT events (and it's qualifiers) were to be in this format, wouldn't it be better? And for the most pessimist of you, who will say WotC does it all for the money, I'll say this: If extended became as used as T2, would you stop buying new cards? Well, I wouldn't. And I think most of us would buy the new products, whatever the tournament scene's format is in. Look at Unglued. It's not even tournament legal, but it sells nonetheless. Now, if I'm not too wrong on this, we just need to make ourselves heard by Wizards. I won't take more of your precious time. Stéphane Roselier, Unknown scrub since Legend's release, and happy to be.
