Subject: To those who knock T2 Date: Fri, 7 Aug 1998 18:56:20 -0600 From: Jim Hamp Newsgroups: rec.games.trading-cards.magic.strategy I've seen a fair number of posts from those who think WotC invented T2 to make money. Here's a few random thoughts... I seem to remember T2 being invented because people who didn't have and couldn't afford the P9 or didn't start playing until Ice Age whined that it wasn't faaaaaair that all the other players had these Really Kewl Cards that no one could get any more. So WotC invented T2 originally as an attempt to be responsive to the new players. Those who claim that WotC is unresponsive to players should also take note of this. Also, I'd like to know what's wrong with WotC doing things to make money. In case you've not thought of this, if WotC went broke, we'd have no new ideas, no new cards. Sure, they're gonna make money the best they can within the gaming environment, but they really do know that the best way to do that is to try to make the players happy. When T2 was fairly stable, eventually one deck dominated and players whined that WotC wouldn't ban cards from that deck, while if they'd done so another deck would have emerged and dominated. One reason why no deck dominates these days is that there *is* no time to refine a deck a lot before the environment changes. To keep everyone happy, WotC would have to: Keep the environment stable, but introduce enough change that no one deck would dominate...huh? Let people who are just starting play with only newer cards, but don't have any format where people have to buy new cards to play...again, huh? So let's have all the people who complain about Those Greedy Bastards At WotC tell WotC how better to solve the problems faced by new players who can't afford to buy the cards that the long-timers have. Then they'll have more ground to whine from, er, stand on. My $.02
