Subject: Misc (Re: people who play for fun) Date: Tue, 16 Jun 1998 21:34:05 +0200 From: "Watermeyer Family" To: This subject of Fun VS. Winning seems to remind me slightly of a deck archtype... Stasis (Turbo, Chrono, Any form you please) 90% (From my perspective) of players hate playing agains`t Stasis, not because it is unbeatable, but because it is boring. From another perspective, that of my friend, who is a Stasis player, Is that it is a great deck to play... To me I think he enjoyed Magic for aspect of Winning. While I would change to a completely different deck every week to 2 weeks, he would constantly tune his deck, never dropping it. Perhaps what I`m trying to get at is that "Variety is the spice of Life" and that is what most of us *Fun* players feel. It is not fun repeating match after match when it is Clear Cut and Decided who will win. There is no Variety. When you compare a match of Stasis Vs Red-burn to a match between two 100 Card highlander decks, The one you would prefer to watch/play would be the highlander match. The Reason is the Variety of Card and variety of play/strategy As for Deck Building Skills, to try build an effective 100 card highlander deck is at least as challenging if not more so for the need of original thought needed. In Conclusion, what most of us *fun* players (whether they`re competitive or not) is Variation/Intresting of play. Think of the last time you were Slaughtered, but in such an Unique original way that you could not help but be Inspired by It. P.S. If you Want them to be happy and give you a real challenge, Give them the allowance of the use of proxies, You`ll enjoy the results! (So will they) Cheers People Quorg gjw@icon.co.za Gerald Watermeyer
