Subject: RE: STOP PRINTING DECKLISTS Date: Thu, 25 Jun 1998 20:39:19 -0500 From: Matt Geerts To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com In response to Dorian Anders' article about the Dojo not printing deck lists anymore, I would like to add the following for people to think about: I am sure that a lot of people thought that Dorian was a complete idiot saying what he said, after all, that's all the Dojo is for isn't it? Wrong. I believe that the Dojo is there to let people know what is going on in the protour and other Magic events. It was not made for people to just go and copy other people's decks. Dorian was right about saying that people that post and copy decks ruin the fun in tourneys because people just can't prepare for everything that is out there. I have a friend that has not made a deck since he found out about the Dojo. He has won a few tournaments and it is all because of the hours that someone else put into "his" deck. I looked through his box of decks one day, and what did I find? Pox, from the Dojo, sleigh, from the Dojo, steel necro, from the Dojo, counterburn, from the Dojo. This "good" player sucks when you look at it that way. A good player at a game that takes thinking must be a thinker. Another problem with people copying tourney winner decks is that all of the people that have cash to burn just go and make a Dojo deck every now and then, often every week. People that have a limit to the amount of cash they spend, now have a major disadvantage. I find this ridiculous. Magic IS a CCG, the only part that the Dojo has not ruined is the fact that you use cards. I try not to copy decks off the Dojo, I have made a couple of decks that I later found on the Dojo. With my own mind and time I thought of a powerful deck, then I find that plenty of other people also know about this deck. This is because someone posted it on the Dojo and lots of people saw it. It was based off of an obvious combo, earthquake/maniac/en-Kor. This completely ruined the surprise and my chance of doing well. I think that it would be great to see people only posting deck ideas and combos, then there might actually be some differences between one guys tradewind deck and the next.
