Subject: Re: Stop Printing Decklists Date: Thu, 25 Jun 1998 12:37:23 -0700 From: "Dan Cheek" To: Hi, Dorian Anders wrote an article complaining about how the Dojo is ruining Magic by printing complete decklists. My opinion is quite different. If anything, I think that the Dojo is a great help to both the game and the players. Remember a long time ago in Type 2 when there were only two or maybe three competitive deck types? That was before the Dojo came around and became the popular place that it is. Today players actually have a selection of competitive decks. More and more are posted everyday and the current environment is very unpredictable and in my opinion, very exciting. To say that the Dojo takes away from creative thought is totally wrong. The Dojo provides a place for creative thought to prosper and thrive. Magic players, scrub and pro alike, can come to the Dojo and see what's going on, what other people are using, what's working and what's not. Can this be bad for the game? Also, in his article, Dorian suggested that people only post basic ideas and a few theme cards. Does this sound dumb to anyone else? Everyone would be posting messages like, "What the hell is he talking about?" Creative thought would disappear and confusion would rein supreme. Here's what a decklisting for a Suicide Black deck would be like. Hi, I have this really fast black deck that uses a lot of creatures. Two key cards are Sarcomancy and Dark Ritual. You can kill your opponent by turn four quite often. I hope I haven't said to much, but if you can't already tell I'm really excited. Oh what the hell, here's the whole decklist. 4 4 4 4 Sarcomancy 4 4 4 4 Dark Rituals 4 3 19 Swamps I hope this encourages some creative thought around here. Thanks. See what I mean. Did this message stimulate your brain cells or simply piss you off? What the hell are you supposed to think about? Bottom line, if people can't get up to the minute, detailed information on the newest decks from the Dojo, they'll get it from somewhere else. The Dojo would shut down and some other place would take its place. Frank is doing a Hell of a job in my opinion and I thank him for it. I enjoy reading the Dojo articles and decklists, and because of that it make the game more fun for me. I hope other people feel the same way. Dan Cheek pilot@epix.net Necro98 on IRC
