Subject: Maybe I AM insane... Date: Wed, 13 May 1998 12:27:32 -0700 From: Zark Newsgroups: rec.games.trading-cards.magic.strategy I personaly have been playing magic since the 4th edition. I have spent quite a money in expansions such as Alliances, Visions and so on. I also have spent a lot of money to get some good but not so broken OOPs such as Psi Blasts, Serendib Efreets, Sword of the Ages and so on. All this because I find them funny, not overpowered. I have had this mentality ever since I started to play. I remember getting my first Serra, Icy or Armageddon. They were absolutely great cards. Magic was fun to play. I also bought a lot of boosters to get good cards such as Outpost, FoW. These "spoilers" were not spoilers but the greatest moments in the game. Even restricted balance was a very balanced in my and my friends opinion. However Wotc seemed to think that cards such as Serra, Savannah Lions and Mishra's Factory were overpowered. That pissed me of a little. You see, I'd like play both T1.5 and T2, but nowadays I am forced to play in T1.5, which seemes to be a bit boring. I don't want to spend money on cards like the abyss, nether void, juzam and so on. I am not quite sure, if I would ever like to see cards like that reprinted. Reprinting P9 would be absolutely insane. However I'd love to see all the great cards from RV, CH, AI and even UL reprinted so that we could still have fun playing T2. I know I'm not alone when I'm saying, I can't afford (or want to buy) all the crappy new expansions. But what if they reprinted a great chronicles II with absolutely no crap cards on the set? What if we still had a chance to get duals, apes, Serras, Icys, Sinkholes and so on from a booster? I bet everyone would feel great, not pissed off. Even I would start again buying boosters. And no one would really think about the value of their old cards. Let's face it: card like IA icy, would still be worth 5 bucks even if there would be a new whitebordered T2 version. And all us players who have played for 2-3 years, would feel great again with all the cards useless in T1.5. To me and my friends THE GAME is important, not the value of cards. However we don't want some fucking Phyrexian Marauders and other crappy rares for three bucks. Of course the reprinted cards should have at least the same rarity as in RV, IA etc. Cards like Sinkhole could become rares, and Kird Ape uncommon and so on. If someone would have a problem with this reprinting, then why not have rulings that reprinted cards such as Sinkhole and Dual Lands would be tourney legal only in T1.5. However cards like Mishra, Lions and Icy, would be legal again in T2. You see many of my friends quitted playing magic when 5E came out and all their favourite cards got in the reserved list. There seems to be too big difference between playing T1.5 and T2 (at least when you are playing with cards printed after the Dark). Most of my friends have stoppped buying new expansions and are therefore not willing to play against deck containing WL, TE and ST cards. So they are in situation where they have to play type ? or quit playing. So what happens when 6th edition comes out? No more wraths no more geddons or disks? Aren't even these cards overpowered? :( No reprints of Outpost, Helm of Obedience? I guess that'll be Wotc policy. It seems that we aren't supposed to have fun but have "more balanced",dull duals. I have always disliked sealed deck tournaments and can't understand why all the expansions must have so much crappy cards because of that. Why doesn't Wotc print different sets for sealed deck tournies? Us who want to play with great cards, could buy our own expansions (that wouldn't ever be used in sealed deck tournies). You see, I wouldn't start playing magic nowadays. There are no cards worth chasing. And Wotc publishes too many expansions. And boy do they print millions and millions of each card... Maybe Magic will die. It'll be Wotc's own fault. Their reprinting policy sucks.
