Subject: PTQ London Date: Tue, 16 Sep 1997 00:46:22 -0400 From: John Manners <106441.1507@compuserve.com> To: "fkusumot@ix.netcom.com" I spent alot of time practising for the qualifier as weatherlite had radically changed all that I learned in Paris about Mavis. The deck I eventually setlled on was a mono-blue control deck with guess what ............ 4 Man 'o war 4 Ophidian 4 Waterspout Djinn 4 Vodalian Illusionist 3 Serrated Biskelion 2 Floodgate 4 Memory Lapse 4 Impulse 4 Dissipate 3 Power Sink 1 Desertion Sideboard 3 Shimmer 3 Tidal Wave 3 Boomerang 2 Disrupt 2 Abduction 1 Serrated Biskelion 1 Flooded Shoreline Round 1 Adam Howson Adam had green/black/white falcon/abeyance/armour Ist game I drew 4 memory lapses and the ophidians eventually killed him in game 2 he was a touch mana light andcould not recover from my quick start. 1-0-0 / 2-0-0 Round 2 Sorry I am very bad with names red/white abeyance/dwarven berzerker!!/volcanic dragon I get good start with man 'o wars in game 1 with 5th turn ophidian/lapse. In game 2 he didn't really understand my illusionist when I fizzled his pacifism ophidian delivered final kill. 2-0-0 / 4-0-0 Round 3 Sonny Schnieder blue/white abeyance/biscuit/merman He mistimes his illusionist and ends up putting two counters on his biskelion then when it phases in I point out that he has physically put two counters on it himself so by all rights it is dead he say it is harsh to pick him up on that and if I insist it dies then he will concede and pull out of the tournament. I put the biskelion in the graveyard so Sonny picks up all his cards and marches of in a mood. Oh well. 3-0-0 / 6-0-0 Round 4 Ben Jakobsson (Sp??) Red/Green Meta game Anti blue - kats/boas/centaurs/lancers/biskellions In game one he had 3 centaurs and a lancer out while I only have a biskelion and a floodgate. I lay my illusionist praying that it will survive. He lashes out bringing me down to three and we both have no cards in hand after he lays a land. I wait till his turn and phase out the gate during his attack. I then proceed to kill him with my illusionist. Game two i sided in the extra biskelion and the tidal waves. Here I got out the biscuit and mowed through all his horrible 2/1s it seemed like he had at least 15. Against another blue player he had this start: land, guildmage, land, boa, land, centaur, land, boa, kat!! luck he didn't do it to me. 4-0-0 / 8-0-0 Round five Fox on the internet don't know his real name He was playing sandipoise straight off the dojo. The head of the UK DCI was at the table watching this match as apparently my opponent had already been given 19 warnings or something. First game he gets a quick lock (even though I had 3 dissipates in my first 8 cards) and I concede knowing there is no way out. In go the boomers, I play it cagey and he is still able to get out an equipoise then a sands but he still had a lotus vale in play so boomerang was my only hope. He laid out a city of solitude then the following turn he made another one. He followed this up by coerceing my boomerang. Things were looking bad as he proceeded to lay a wand of denial. He passes over to my turn then wands me during my upkeep with two of his own cities of solitude on the table having looked at my top card the judge give him a warning and he is ejected for having so many warnings. It is a bad way to win but apparently he was using enlightened tutor to get Mangara's blessing and stuff before. 5-0-0 /10-1-0 Round 6 Draw as there is no knock out just the 2 highest swiss players get the places so common sense dictates draw in!! I am going to Chicago Yippeeeeeee!! Christopher Manners
