David pretty much dominated OKC ... he played the Brian Kibler deck that I was thinking about playing .. changed my mind and went with a U/B Ertog deck modified with Illusionist. Now it's just my opinion, but this deck should have beat down just about any deck, especially after sideboarding. More on that later. Round 1 vs. Jim Dowell (Mono Blue) I'm nervous after seeing that he is indeed playing the deck I was thinking of playing...straight off of the dojo page and Kibler's report. Match 1 Land, Land, Land...I see bikes..he sees my bikes...bam I lay down a Djinn..Whack Whack..he Lays down a djinn..Stall then He abducts...Whacks on me...then I Barrow Ghoul...he blocks with my Djinn ...DOH!! ... I nekratall his .... beatdown proceeds as he bikes and bikes my Djinn to a 1/1 that ends up killing him. Match 2 I start out with 3 Man-o-War's and 2 Nekrataals...wasn't much he could do as I cleared a path to victory ... I feel really bad about beating him down as he went on to the finals and his only loss was to me... On to Round two..i'm thinking ... WOW ... this deck is really working today .. much better than the one I took to Dallas and got my ass kicked with. Round 2 vs. Stephen McKinley (R/B Burn'em) Match 1> He proceeds to beat me down with bloodrocks and other assorted small creatures...when I get out a tog...and smack him for 11...he turns around and smacks me around...with two Ertai's out....nothing but creatures...I smack him again... Match 2> I see one land....sucky day ... Match 3> I see two land...still a sucky day... So I lose to mana screw ... sucks... don't it? Round 3 vs. Allen Sun (classic monoblack/tog and so on) I think he had a smidgen of blue in there for manowars... match 1> another two lands....i'm thinking man...FUCK!! ... with over 23 lands in a 62 card deck .... damnit where is it!! match 2> again ... mana screwdged....althoug I am able to hold off the enevitable with an elephant grass...total surprise factor and the look on his face was great!! :) By this time i'm 1 and 2 thinking that I should have be doing alot more than what is going on ... this was really sucking ... Round 4 vs. David Furguson (Another monoblue deck) Match 1> Again ... I only see a couple of mana..mostly black holding two spouts....he proceeds to beat me down.. Match 2> I sideboard shimmer...I see it in my opening hand...lucky me...I proceed to beat him down when I finally see enough mana to cast shimmer... Match 3> Everything is going to plan...save 5 swamps and 1 island..although i'm dealing with it ... when he drops his own shimmer..>DOH!!! .... it hurts... Well...after this ... no chance for even making the finals...I enter a booster draft...I didn't want to go to Chicago anyway ... to damn windy! I watch the finals between Cary and David aka Casper. In just about any game I think Mono Blue will beatdown black...They played a really great game ... Both are excellent players and both were trying hard to get to Chicago... I respected David before but now I really respect him if what was said at the tourney when I left...that he gave the winnings to Cary ...That is true sportsmanship ...I don't know if I would have done that ... hard to say .. needed gas money on the way back .. so I end up selling an abyss and a moat ... oh well...
