Subject: VA State Championship Report: Sligh Date: Wed, 18 Nov 1998 06:10:14 PST From: "Thomas Washington" To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Hey all, Thomas Washington here! Just thought I would drop a few lines on the VASC I went to on the 7th. Let me start off by saying how disgusted I was with the judging there. The one Level 3 Judge there seemed even less educated then his helpers, who also didn't seem to bright when it came both to rules of the game as well as rules of the tournament. While I do commend them on the pairings and effiency for starting the rounds, something needs to be done for the knowledge of simple rules. I played one judge in a booster draft and the moron didn't know a simple rule. He casted a monk realist so in response I rescided my one enchantment back to my hand, which he had said he was going to destroy. Since it was gone I said he had to choose one of his enchantments to die and he didn't think so! He thought you declare the target when you cast it not when it COMES INTO PLAY, like the card says! We brought another judge over to rule and he agreed with him! Idiots! Finnaly with a lot of arguing from me and my freind, another judge actually knew something about what he was doing. Anyway enough of my yelling. Here is my comments on the tournament and the way my deck did. By the way my deck was a goblin rush deck, basically sligh. Match One: Vs. Argothian Wurm/Gedon Game One: I got him down to 5 by turn 4. I dropped a ball early on and my lackey drew out two flunkies. I had a spare fanatic to boot as well as a scroll and I thought I had him. I had wasted one shock on a bird he dropped to slow his mana supply. It didn't matter. He dropped a feeder on his turn five and a gnome on his next turn, stopping my rush. I began scrolling and brought him down to 1, but he had his creatures, and he drew a disenchant. Dropped a wurm later, I died. Game Two: Got him down to 6 on turn four. He did bassically the same thing to take control. By the way my sideboard did no good against this guy. Record: 0-2 Match Two: Vs GWU Tradwind/Geddon Game One: He dropped some WoB for defense but I incinerated through them. I brought him down to 2 and scrolled him. He was good and dead. Game Two: He got a tradewind out turn 4, followed by a chill and a prop on turn five. I couldn't get through. I was dead. Game Three: This was a massacre. I really don't like my deck at this point. I would like to add that abundance and slyvan is an ancestral every turn. Record: 1-4 Match Three: Vs. Yet Another Tradwind Deck Game One: Brought him two 7. He got out three feeders. I was loading my gun and putting it in my mouth. He pulled the trigger for me by geddoning when I had out 7 mana and two scrolls. Ouch. Game Two: He dropped a WoB turn two and three, a gnome turn four, followed by a tradewind turn five. Geddoned on turn seven when I had out only a fanatic, two lackeys, and a flunkie. Record: 1-6 At this point I was hungry and a little bit pissed off about throwing away fifteen bucks for entry. It was fun though. Two of the guys I played were really cool and I started making lewd jokes about the goblin lackey and the goblin matron. Ha-ha. The third guy was kinda stuck, but I didn't care. The tournament was fun and I will go back next year. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
