Subject: (Fwd) tourney report-VA states

I went to the va state champs with Jee Hong and Allen.  I decided
to play Counter-phoenix deck that i made.

2       STROKE OF GENIUS (this card would both help and hurt me)

2       Dread of Night (did not use but need to have)

Round 1 vs. David Bass playing 5c Sliver using 14 painlands:)

Game 1  I am able to gain control via a disk and counter his late
game threats and because of pain lands i shock him out of the
game.
Game 2  Second turn crystalline and third turn muscle hurts but
what really hurts is disenchant and a winged to protect against my
disk
Game 3  He gets that good pain land draw and does 13 points to
him self.  I begain proper beatings with shard 1-0

Round 2 vs random guy playing mono red

Game 1  He does ton of early damage and i gain control via a
disk.  He draws a gorge and i concede
Game 2  Sea Sprite, shard Phoenix is some combo.
Game 3  In fact sea sprite is a combo all by itself.  2-0

Round 3 vs Steve Cowley playing the deck everyone played with
Game 1  He uses his deck to make tons of mana and strokes
me.
Game 2  I get good game control and he meditates for
desparaton.  That is the best thing that could have happened to
me.  On my first turn i lay a disk, then i untap it on my next turn.
Good thing i also topdeck a Lobotomy.  I take his strokes and he
scoops.
Game 3  He gets one land and uses it for mox diamond and
brainstorms.  he gets nothing. i lay tons of land and put him in a
forbid lock:)  3-0

Round 4 vs John Slaughter playing some random blue deck that
decks you?
We get deck checked!!!
Both of us have illegal decks.  Remember how i said the strokes
hurt me.  My penalty should have been dq but the head judge lack
of knowing the new rules gave me a match lose.  Because they
were using the new computer program they were forced to give us
a draw.  So draw is not that bad for what should have been a dq.
Because donnie gallitz got dq he was not happy. but really is
donnie EVER happy when he loses.  3-0-1
So on to round 5

Round 5 vs random guy #2 playing lifeline

Game 1  He does nothing I win easy
Game 2  He does one thing which is scragy but thank god i use
disks  4-0-1

Round 6 vs Allen Sorenson playing necro

Game 1  I am unable to stop a first turn necro and he draw 18
card total.  I draw 6 in the mean time.  Shock was won of those.
Game 2  He was able to mindtwist all of my blue cards
Game 3  i draw one land and keep it.  The reason is i have spike
and whispers in it.  I draw nothing.  4-1-1

Round 7 vs Gary Fortenberry playing TW with sylvan/abun

Game 1  Gets off to a slow start.  he get forbid locked
Game 2  He gets scragy and Hammerhead but because of stone
beatings he has to stay back to block.  I lobotomy and take forbid.
I get a good shard lock with shard beatdown  5-1-1

I make the top 8

Quarterfinals vs allen

Game 1  I gain control with a disk and go all the way
Game 2  My deck does not have four lands to play a disk this
time
Game 3  I paris and get 5 lands and a shock.  He duresses i
shock him, i lose

top 8 not bad
