"Squandered-Stasis", May '97

Newly developed (and hot on the heels of ProsBloom), is the Squandered-Stasis Deck (Sq-Stasis), also referred to as "Valley Stasis". This deck was created with the intent to break the card "Squandered Resources", hence the name...  It is a very fast and nasty lock deck, working similarly to the old Turbo-Stasis deck.

This deck, while taking its basic form from the Turbo-Stasis deck plays much differently. It can afford to be much more reactive with its countering ability because of the extra mana afforded by the Squandered Resources, and this is reflected by the addition of 10 standard counterspells (and more in the sideboard). The resurrection of the Stasis deck is made possible by the Sheltered Valley's, a feasible replacement for the Zuran Orb, Ivory Tower life-gainers that were lost in the Ice Age. Unlike the Turbo-Stasis deck, the Sq-Stasis deck does not have to rely on the Howling Mines for consistent mana production, and can even afford to use COP's. Also, the Sq-Stasis deck does not fall as easily to the traditional Stasis hosers,e.g., a Winter Orb will not wreck the Sq-Stasis players day. More as this deck develops.
