From: Jeff Subject: Sentinel Date: Tue, 08 Jul 1997 09:18:39 -0700 I am have been messing around with this little beastie lately, and it appears to be wroking fairly well. Nine times out of ten it serves out a serious beatdown right quick. Artifacts: 2 2 Snake Basket Green: 31 <33> 4 Veteran Explorers 4 River Boa 4 Llanowar Sentinel 3 Jolrael's Centaur 3 Stampeding Wildebeests 2 Wall of Roots 2 Barishi 2 Aberoth 2 Uktabi Wildcats 2 Canopy Dragon 2 Natural Order 1 Waiting in the Weeds Red: 6 <39> 4 Incinerate 2 Fervor Mana: 21 <60> 3 Mountains 1 Mountain Valley 17 Forests The deck is focused on several effective combos. The Explorers get a lot of land into play quickly, while at the same thinning my deck down to the good stuff. Without that nasty 'Geddon to worry about I feel comfortable putting this many lands into play. This also brings out an army of Sentinels. If I can't get my opponent to kill the Explorers, then I sac them with Natural Order and grab and Aberoth and a couple of lands. The Wildcats come out late game as heavy hitters and the Canopy Gragon, which I know seem like slack, work very well since flyers can cause me trouble. Also, I needed a few more tramplers, so the fit the deck nicely. The Stampeding Wildebeesties work great with many of the cards in the deck. With the Aberoth and Wall of Roots to reset the counters; with the Llanowar Sentinels so I can go grab a few more. Also with Waiting in the Weeds and the 2 Snake Baskets I can pull a swarm offense as well. And if things get Twistered away etc, there is Barishi to put all those critters right back in the deck. All in all, what started out as fun a little deck turned into a tuned killing machine. You would be surprised how often you say things like "I'll attack you for 18". I have tried black as the 2nd color and it worked pretty well. I needed some critter removal so I added 4 Dark Banishings. But I thought about how I could get the largest amount of damage as fast as possible and by adding Fervor to allow me to attack with a 9/9 Aberoth or an 7/7+ Wildcats the turn they come into play I have succeeded. This will at least allow me to get a slam in before the Man-o-Wars or Nekrataals kills the big guys. Sideboard is under construction, but will obviously depend on whether I go back to Black as the support color. I'm also considering White for Abeyance. We'll see. Comments? Laterz, Jeff
