Subject: 3 Standard Decks Date: Thu, 19 Feb 1998 18:35:51 -0700 (MST) From: bbailey@indirect.com To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Frank- Here are three typical Type II decks with some of my own pinache: Sleigh Land 20 Mountain 4 Wastelands Red 4 Mogg Fanatic 4 Goblin Vandal (vs. Cursed Scroll/WInter Orb) 4 Ironclaw Orcs 4 Fireslingers 4 Incinerate 4 Kindle 4 Ball Lightning (kills Pox decks - look out for Spinning Darkness) 4 Fireblast Artifact 4 Cursed Scroll Although it may seem strange that there is four of everything in this deck, the actual Mana Curve Theory shows that you might as well fill it in this way as you should use the best cards for casting cost slots. Jay Schneider Pox Land 16 Swamp* 4 Stalking Stones* (uncounterable damage source) 4 Wastelands* Black 4 Funeral Charm* 4 Diabolic Edict 4 Coercion* 4 Stupor* 4 Cholking Sands* 4 Pox* 2 Evincar's Justice 4 Spinning Darknes Artifact 4 Steel Golem* 4 Cursed Scroll* This deck also warrants the use of so many 4's because all of the cards in this deck marked with an "*" are equally useful against a creature based deck (i.e. Stompy) and a creatureless deck (i.e. PropaOrb), so everything but creature removal is always a good draw. I don't use Charcoal Diamond because with Pox, Wastelands, and Cholking Sands, you should be able to screw an Orb deck (like 5CWhatnot) up so badly manawise that they cannot come back to kill you and you will eventually get out a Stee PropaOrb Land 2 Flood Plain 6 Island 6 Plains 3 Gemstone Mine 3 Undiscovered Paradise Blue 4 Impulse (oh, so good) 4 Power Sink (imho better than Counterspell in an Orb deck) 4 Propaganda Green 3 Gaea's Blessing (the kill cards) White 3 Armageddon 4 Disenchant 4 Gerrard's Wisdom 4 Wrath of God Artifact 3 Marble Diamond 1 Moss Diamond 3 Sky Diamond 3 Winter Orb An all around solid deck. Struggles slightly with mana screw (another reason for Power Sink over Counterspell) but only on turns one and two (probably because there are only 18 mana producing lands), so it doesn't greatly affect games. If you plan on taking this deck to a tournament, beware that with out Grindstone/Millstone, games can easily take up to an hour and a half, especially if the opponent uses their own Blessings. Grindstone speeds games up to about 30 minutes. -Bobby the Wise
