Subject: experimental Scroll-Control deck: please critique Date: Fri, 6 Feb 1998 12:11:27 +1300 From: "Simon Connell" To: "Frank Kusumoto" Well, as the Cursed Scroll arguments rage on, I thought I'd try out an idea I've been having. I believe CS is a control card at heart, it's just so good versus creatures! Bear in mind this is the first version of the deck, basically I just want to try out my idea. So, without further ado, here's my deck: Scroll-Control v1.0b (Neo-Control) 4 Cursed Scroll -- duh! 3 Legacy's Allure 3 Aura of Silence -- all permenants, don't clutter your hand 1 Island Sanctuary -- experimental, think about it: kill flyers with scrolls, forget about other creatures. 1 Spirit Mirror 2 Rainbow Efreet 2 Air Elemental 4 Bottle Gnomes -- probably needs the life 2 Soltari Priest 2 Thakalos Seer -- I'm not sure about the last four. I had 4 Ophidians until about half a minute ago, as a sort of a knee-jerk reaction, then I realised... 4 Impulse -- Impulse! Impulse! Impulse! 2 Counterspell -- only two, mind you. Not likely to muck up the CS, probably will get used up, anyway. 3 Sky Diamond 2 Marble Diamond 1 Mind Stone -- A) they get cast early, and get out of the hand. B) they finance some of the heavier costing spells (eg Air Ele) land: 4 Adarkar Wastes 2 Reflecting Pool 2 Thakalos Lowlands -- OK with pool and diamonds 11 Island 5 Plains -- needs the multilands as many cards have 2 of the colour in cc Anyway, I think you can guess what the idea of neo-control is. I'm not saying -- only hoping -- that it could work. I'm waiting for Stronghold when I get that thing that stops creatures attacking you with power>cards in your hand. The basic deck idea is to use control cards that don't have to stick in your hand: Aura, Allure, Spirit Mirror (sorta), cheap-ish creatures(but not man 'o' war in case it gets stuck in your hand, maybe I could put some in), diamonds for emptying the hand and paying the mana, and then get scroll-control. Impulse is sooo great, and should help. The Bottle gnomes are probably necessary versus fast decks. Mana-denial shouldn't be too much of a problem because it has 6 artifact mana, and the 2 counterspells. Anyway, again, the deck is highly experimental. It's main purpose it to demonstrate a deck that Cursed Scroll _could_ work in. PLEASE critique it (not flame:-). Tell me if you think it won't work, and why. Tell me any card which should be in it that I haven't though of, maybe Suq'Ata Firewalkers? I dunno. sHc Simon Connell
