Subject: New Forgotten Orb Deck Date: Thu, 1 Jan 1998 23:33:04 +0800 From: gochris@philonline.com.ph To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Here's the thing. I'm really a cheap (read: inexpensive) sort of guy, and about a year ago, put together a deck which vaguely resembled Forgotten Orb. It was a hoot to play: priceless looks on opponents who got Lapsed and locked down next turn made it all worth it. Well, the deck lost a good deal when Alliances departed (Arcane Denial and Contagion were integral parts of defense), and it sort of languished in for a while... also in part because I really didn't like Forg-Orb's cousin 4CB/5CB) that is, till Tempest arrived. Now it looks, well, kind of funny -- at any rate, I hope it's doable. It's kinda does good in testing. Anyway, while the components of the Forg-Orb deck are still pretty viable (Guildmages, Fallen Askaris, Memory Lapses, Nekrataal and Orbs), a good deal of the control aspect went away; Tempest has blessed black and blue with new ways to clamp down with Propaganda and Diabolic Edict. Splash in some fast shadow, and you've got it made. Also I removed the Raiders, with what all the Propaganda-Orb running around. Here's the deck. The "Department of Misinformation" Deck Black 2 Dauthi Slayers 2 Dauthi Horrors 2 Black Knights 2 Fallen Askari 2 Skulking Ghosts 2 Shadow Guildmages (ping-power in a shadow environment; most of them are X/1. Just don't use them on Mogg Maniacs. Just trust me on this one.) 3 Nekrataal 2 Diabolic Edicts (Okay, I guess... I'm not sure if it lives up to all the hype, though.) 2 Terror (When Edicts just won't work) 1 Vampiric Tutor Blue 4 Memory Lapse 1 Power Sink (This is a lame attempt to replace Arcane Denial.) 3 Man O'War 3 Propaganda Artifact 4 Winter Orb 2 Serrated Biskelion Lands 2 Rootwater Depths 2 Undiscovered Paradise 2 City of Brass 2 Gemstone Mine 2 Quicksand 8 Swamps 5 Islands Propaganda works wonders in this deck, Diabolic Edicts make pro-black creatures fair game, and the Shadow creatures deliver their share of damage -- Dauthi Horror is especially good when fighting white Shadow. I haven't really thought up much of a sideboard, but I assume it will include Disenchant and Hydroblast. Other ideas I'm toying with for sideboard include Mox Monkeys and Cloudchaser Eagles, maybe even the top-secret Bottle Gnomes for burn decks (oops). Feel free to drop any comments, etc. etc. Rinaldo Gonzales gochris@philonline.com.ph Laguna, Philippines
