Subject: The Real Reason for the future death of magic! Date: Sun, 29 Nov 1998 15:16:14 -0400 From: "Stella A. Lynch" To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Hi everyone, Simple situation in a game where a play will either win you a match or lose you one and your opponent has a trampler and he thinks that the old trample rule is still in place and attacks figuring that he has one and you block in a way to allow you to live under the new trample rule. OK he asks you if you have any fast effects you say no, he say OK lets go to damage prevention, do you have any effects there you say no, so he begins to scoop his cards and you say no you only did 3 trample not 4 under "the new trample rule, so he gets mad and calls a judge and the judge confirms that your right and you kill him next turn! Good for you! But bad for Wotc!!! The players that you beat does want to play magic anymore since he cant keep up w/ all the new rules along w/ all the new sets that come out all the time and all the errata's along w/ the new sets!! Face it all the players who always do well have to study the game and it's just like a second job w/ us, keep up w/ all the shit that wizards forces us to relearn over and over again and then it changes again. Thats why I disagree w/ 6e new changes, it to much for all us, another thing to make old players run away and find a new way to waste there time! Wotc say the changes are for the future players of the game, well they shouldn't take for granted the players they have now! They (wotc) came out w/ portal and it help our area out because it did recruit new players, and help people find out how much fun this game is for the ground level, well that`s really good, but the same idea of making our main edition into a portal 3 isn`t good keep the basic rules the same, the game has been around for a long time w/ the main rules intact, please don`t change em. Try to advertise more, try more PR it will work, but w/ the large core of players who have played this game for years all the future players you can get to pick up a deck of 6e and learn the simple rules won`t have anyone in there area to go play w/, its the long time players who keep retailers in business not the new blood, the people who want and show up to a weekly tourney, and buy boxes of the new sets when they come out. These are the people who keep this game alive, this is where you should make solid, and work off that to get new players. Some of the other posts say magic will die, it will but not for a long time, but if wizards continues to stick it to the players who have stay w/ the game then you can`t replace our commitment. Take care of us we`ve always taken care of you!!!!!! Thanks for listening to my ass Brian `whatever` Lynch Team TJ`s A future members of PGD Top 100 composite
